humanrewilding.earth is the intellectual home of the Human Rewilding concept — a space for the philosophy, the reading, and the community surrounding the reclamation of subsistence-based indigenous-type lifeways.
About the Author

This site is maintained by James M. Van Lanen, an anthropologist who has spent nearly two decades studying and working with indigenous hunter-gatherers on three continents.
James is the author of “Human Rewilding in the 21st Century” and several other works on rewilding, ancestral skills, and the crisis of civilization.

Fieldwork with Hadza

He is an active subsistence hunter, fisher, and forager based in Alaska, where he lives and works close to the land.
